Our adventure trips are designed to show you a different side of Haiti. From trekking over mountain ranges to diving into crystal blue waterfalls, even the most jaded backpackers will have plenty to love. And with visits to meaningful projects along the way, our adventure trips go beyond the beaten path, to provide a truly authentic travel experience.
Note: Although not mandatory, our adventure trips are primarily for EIM Adventures alumni. The itinerary also changes with each trip. Below is sample of what we’ve done in the past.
Day 1, Saturday
Land in Port-au-Prince and relax poolside as we wait for everyone to arrive. We’ll then join in for part of the school-wide conversation class that the Education trip will be hosting for EIM students. After dinner, we’ll go out for drinks before spending the night at Haiti Communitere.
Day 2, Sunday
After breakfast we’ll walk across the street to the regional airport for our (20-min!) flight to Cap Haitien! Spend the day exploring this charming town, have cocktails at our beautiful hotel Habitation des Lauriers with panoramic views of the city and go out for dinner and live music.
Day 3, Monday
In the morning we’ll pack in a truck and head out to the tiny town of Milot. Here we’ll hike up to Sans Souci and the Citadel — Henri Christophe’s massive fort and castle that’s also a Unesco World Heritage site. Afterward we’ll return to Cap for drinks at the historic Hotel du Roi Chistophe hotel.
Day 4, Tuesday
After all this hiking and history, it’s time to relax. We’ll drive out to Labadie to enjoy get a full day and overnight at the stunning Cormier Plage resort. Island hop or simply lay on the beach with a cold rum sour. A sunset cruise may also be in the works.
Day 5, Wednesday
After breakfast, we’ll catch a late morning flight back to PAP. In the afternoon, we’ll meet back up with the Education trip for EIM’s annual “GivingThanks” event. This is a special, student-led evening where each of the classes prepare a talent and speech to express their gratitude.
Day 6, Thursday
Thursday we’ll spend a whole day in PAP. Visit (or revisit) any of your favorite activities from neighborhood tours to artisan workshops, tag along for extra English classes, or assist with our Thanksgiving feast! T-day dinner will include our broader community including all the EIM teachers and trip leaders. Afterward, pack into the bus and head to the beautiful Hotel Oloffson for live Rara music!
Day 7, Friday
After sleeping in a bit, we’ll slowly make our way up to Rustik – a scenic B&B in the woods. Before we arrive, we’ll make a few stops along the way (lunch at Observatoire, perhaps a tour of Wynne Farm, etc). The other Education volunteers will join us later on for tomfoolery and hijinks at Rustik.
Day 8, Saturday
Take part in a morning hike, then return back to HC to get set up for EIM graduation! This is an incredibly special event that will only grow larger each year. *NOTE: We require at least 10 students to pass in order for us to hold a ceremony. If it’s less, we’ll make them wait until next year. Regardless, we’ll still have a big party this night, likely over to EIM’s rooftop bar.
Day 9, Sunday
Alas, it will be time to say goodbye and mark your calendar for next year!
